Materials & Construction

We source our merino wool from ethical farms in Australia, where sheep are raised without mulesing and graze on open pastures year-round. The fiber is naturally renewable, biodegradable, and requires less water than cotton production. After sorting and washing, the wool is spun into a two-ply yarn that balances strength with softness.
Our fully fashioned knitting process shapes each panel to size, eliminating excess fabric and creating a clean, flattering silhouette. The ribbed trim at the neck, cuffs, and hem is knit in a tighter gauge to hold its structure wash after wash. Every seam is linked by hand to lie flat against your body, so there’s no scratching or irritation even during extended wear.

Care Instructions

Merino wool is naturally self-cleaning and odor-resistant, so you can wear your Helsa Sweater multiple times before washing. When it’s time to refresh, turn the sweater inside out and machine wash on a delicate or wool cycle in cool water with a gentle detergent. Avoid fabric softener, which can coat the fibers and reduce breathability.
After washing, gently reshape the sweater and lay it flat on a clean towel to dry away from direct heat or sunlight. Never wring or tumble dry, as high heat can cause felting and shrinkage. With proper care, the sweater will maintain its shape, softness, and color for years. For seasonal storage, fold (don’t hang) and keep in a breathable cotton bag with a natural moth deterrent like cedar or lavender.

Merino wool fibers are much finer than traditional wool — around 18 microns in diameter compared to 30+ microns in coarser breeds. This makes merino incredibly soft and breathable against the skin. Our Helsa Sweater uses premium-grade Australian merino that's been tested for comfort, and the vast majority of customers with wool sensitivities report no irritation.

When cared for properly — washed in cool water on a delicate cycle and laid flat to dry — the Helsa Sweater maintains its original size and shape. High heat and agitation can cause any wool garment to felt and shrink, so we strongly recommend following the care instructions on the label and avoiding the dryer.
