The Amphora Dress
The Amphora Dress takes its name from the ancient vessel—a silhouette that honors the body's natural curves while creating definition through deliberate drape. We've engineered this dress with our double-layer jersey construction that moves with you while maintaining structure throughout the day.
Designed for women who want elegance without restriction, the Amphora features a fitted bodice that releases into a gentle A-line skirt. The result is a dress that flatters multiple body types while feeling effortless to wear from morning meetings to evening events.
- Double-layer ponte jersey for shape retention without stiffness
- Fitted bodice with princess seaming for precise fit
- Gentle A-line skirt that skims rather than clings
- Knee-length hem appropriate for professional and social settings
- Hidden side-seam pockets maintain clean lines
Fabric Engineering & Construction

We developed the Amphora using a proprietary blend of 68% rayon, 27% nylon, and 5% spandex that delivers the perfect balance of structure and comfort. The ponte jersey construction features a double-knit technique that prevents sheerness while allowing four-way stretch.
Unlike single-layer jersey dresses that lose shape after a few hours of wear, our double-layer approach maintains the dress’s silhouette from first wear through dozens of wash cycles. The fabric weight sits at 260gsm—substantial enough to smooth without adding bulk. Princess seaming through the bodice creates the fitted effect without darts, resulting in cleaner lines and better movement.
Sizing & Fit Philosophy

The Helsa Amphora dress runs true to standard US sizing with a fitted bodice and relaxed skirt. We’ve designed the fit to work across a range of body types by focusing on the natural waist as the anchor point.
For reference, our fit model wears size S (5’8″, 34″ bust, 27″ waist, 37″ hip) and the hem falls just below her knee. The bodice should feel fitted but never tight—if you’re between sizes or prefer a looser fit through the ribs, we recommend sizing up. The stretch in our ponte jersey accommodates movement while the double-layer construction prevents the fabric from stretching out permanently over time.
Care Instructions

Machine wash cold on gentle cycle with like colors. We recommend using a mesh laundry bag to protect the dress during washing, though it’s not required.
Tumble dry low or hang to dry—both methods work equally well with our fabric. The ponte jersey resists wrinkles naturally, but if needed, steam or iron on low heat on the reverse side. Never use bleach or fabric softener, as these break down the elastic fibers that give the dress its recovery and shape retention.

The Amphora Dress: Your Questions Answered
No, the double-layer ponte jersey construction is designed to eliminate the need for shapewear. The fabric weight and structure smooth naturally without showing lines from regular undergarments. Most customers wear standard underwear and a regular bra without any issues.
If you typically wear shapewear for personal preference rather than necessity, it will work fine under the dress, but the fabric is engineered specifically so you don't have to.
The Amphora runs true to standard US sizing. The bodice is designed to fit close to the body through the ribs and waist, while the skirt has a relaxed A-line that doesn't cling to hips or thighs.
If you're between sizes or prefer a looser fit through the torso, size up. If you typically size up in dresses because of hip width, you can usually order your true size with the Amphora since the skirt portion has more room than the bodice.
Yes, machine washing on cold gentle cycle is our recommended care method. The ponte jersey is designed to withstand regular machine washing without losing shape, fading, or pilling.
Use a mesh laundry bag if you want extra protection, and either tumble dry low or hang dry. The fabric resists wrinkles naturally, so most customers don't need to iron or steam. Avoid bleach and fabric softener, which can break down the elastic fibers.
The hem is designed to hit just below the knee on most body types. On our 5'8" fit model, it falls approximately one inch below the kneecap.
If you're taller than 5'9", expect the hem to sit slightly above the knee. If you're shorter than 5'5", it may fall closer to mid-calf. The dress is not available in petite or tall lengths at this time, but the ponte fabric can be hemmed by a tailor without affecting the drape.
No, the double-layer ponte construction prevents any sheerness. You can wear standard nude or colored undergarments without them showing through the fabric.
This is one of the primary reasons we use double-layer construction—single-layer jersey often becomes see-through when stretched, but our two-layer approach maintains opacity across all sizes and throughout the day.
Yes, the Amphora features hidden side-seam pockets that are deep enough for a phone or keys. The pockets are integrated into the side seams so they don't interrupt the clean lines of the silhouette or add bulk.
The pocket openings are reinforced to prevent stretching, and because they're set into the seams rather than patched on, they maintain the dress's smooth drape even when you're carrying items.
For professional settings, pair with a blazer and closed-toe flats or pumps. The knee-length hem and modest neckline work for most office dress codes.
For evening events, style with heeled sandals and statement jewelry—the clean silhouette provides a good foundation for bolder accessories. In cooler weather, layer with tights, ankle boots, and a cardigan or coat. The ponte jersey works year-round when styled appropriately for temperature.
